How to Build Backlinks for a New Blog

A new blog has two things going for it that a generic business site doesn’t always have: a natural excuse to publish often, and a built-in reason for other bloggers to engage with you.

Guest posting is your fastest lever

Blogs, more than most site types, actively look for outside contributors. Pitch a specific, well-thought-out article idea — not “can I write for you” — to sites on our Guest Posting Sites list.

Get included in roundups

Many niches have recurring “best posts this week/month” roundups. Genuinely great posts get included without you asking, but a polite heads-up email after publishing something strong doesn’t hurt.

Comment like you mean it

Thoughtful, substantive blog comments occasionally include a byline link (and are always NoFollow) — not a ranking lever, but a legitimate way to get on other bloggers’ radar, which leads to real relationships and, eventually, real links.

Be careful with syndication

If you republish your posts elsewhere (Medium, LinkedIn, etc.), make sure the canonical tag points back to your original — otherwise you risk the syndicated copy outranking your own.
