Not every backlink is worth having. A link only helps when it comes from a page that is topically relevant, reasonably authoritative, and placed in a way that reads naturally to both users and search engines.
A few things worth understanding before you build any link:
- Relevance — a link from a site in your niche carries more weight than one from an unrelated site, regardless of authority.
- Authority — metrics like DA and DR are third-party estimates, not Google metrics — useful as a rough signal, not a guarantee.
- Natural anchor text — a profile of anchors that varies naturally reads as earned; the same exact-match phrase repeated everywhere reads as manipulation.
- Placement — links inside real editorial content tend to carry more weight than links buried in a footer or sidebar.
- Spam risk — mass-produced links from low-quality or unrelated sites can do more harm than good.
- DoFollow vs. NoFollow — DoFollow links pass authority; NoFollow links still send traffic and build brand presence, and a natural link profile has both.
