Social bookmarking sites let you submit a page with a title and short description for others to discover. They were a bigger deal in SEO a decade ago; today, their value is more indirect.
What actually happens
Most bookmarking links are NoFollow, so don’t expect a direct authority boost. What you can realistically expect is some referral traffic, a small visibility bump, and one more data point in a natural, diversified link profile.
Where it can genuinely help
- Getting a new page seen by people actively browsing that platform
- Helping search engines discover a new URL faster
- Rounding out a link profile that would otherwise look unnaturally narrow (all guest posts, or all directories)
How much time to spend on it
Not much — bookmarking a genuinely useful page takes minutes and costs nothing, so it’s worth doing, but it shouldn’t be your primary link-building strategy. Our Social Bookmarking Sites list covers the platforms worth using.
